No success in France

The WOC selection races in France was no success for me. I did too many mistakes to get the results and the feeling I was hoping for. My goal was to rock the rocks, but I felt more like being rocked out by the rocks. Les mer //

Ready to rock the rocks!

Tomorrow it is time for the first WOC selection race, a short (60min?) long distance competition. It will be held on a brand new map, “Pré-poulain” (1:15000) close to the very interesting terrain “Montagne de Bange”. Montagne de Bange is one of the most difficult terrains in which have run orienteering, so tomorrows race will definitely be a challenge. Les mer //

Rocky feeling

I guess most of you readers have seen the films about the boxer Rocky Balboa. My favourite is Rocky IV, where he fights the big russian Ivan Drago. He fights against the impossible, but he never gives up and finally he manages to beat Drago. So, what has Rocky to do with orienteering? Les mer //

9 months to go – now I am ready!

Today it is exactly 9 months left till 17th of August 2011. 9 months of hard work. After this training camp I think I know what have to be done to be in the fight for medals on this special day (and two days later) in the small village La Feclaz in the beautiful Massif de Bauges. Les mer //

WOC´11 – Camp 2 (part 1)

Last Tuesday Tue, Hans Gunnar and myself left Norway for France, hoping to find some nice green french forests as the cold, long winter announced it`s arrival in Norway. Our goal was to spend as many hours as possible in the WOC-relevant terrains near Annecy and Chambery. The main question was: snow or no snow?  Les mer //

WOC`10: WORLD CHAMPION! (map w/comments)

Friday 13. 22.15pm on Friday 13th of August 2010. 17 hours 28 min to the start of my first WOC middle distance final. On home ground. I have a dream of winning a medal. I know I am good enough. I know I could not be better prepared. Still (or maybe therefore) I am as nervous as I have never been before. My stomach hurts, my throat feels sore. I am lying in my bed having a peptalk with our coach Petter Thoresen. I tell him about my “bad” conditions. There is not much to say, we both know I am ready…
