Alter G – The savior in need!
After my injury two weeks ago my training plan had to be changed. In such a situation (as always) it is important to look for the opportunities and advantages, even though it feels like you can`t do the preparations and training you need. Actually, I never felt I lost any training. I felt in fact that my training was really good and that this injury could make me even stronger for the world champs!
Mental preparations. When not being able to run, I had to find alternative ways of training. The first week after the injury all the training was done by biking or running in water. During these trainings I had plenty of time to mentally prepare for the WOC! I saw myself in different situations and figured out how to solve each one of them. After this week I felt really comfortable and secure that I would manage all kind of situations that could occur during WOC-races. Now I just look forward to showing the home crowd the best I can (and I know it is good…:)
Alter G. When i started running 1 week after the injury my foot felt a little stiff, but for each day it got better and better. My feeling got better for each training, something which is really motivating! On most of my first running trainings after the injury I used the Alter G treadmill, one of Olymiatoppens newest investments.
By redusing my bodyweight to for example 50% I could run on this treadmill without feeling any pain at all. I also did my first running high intensity training on this treadmill with great success; 6*4min, 10% incline, 13-14,5km/h. The intervals was done with 100% bodyweight, but warmup and cooldown was done with 70% of my body weight to avoid stressing my foot. I could not feel any pain and my shape felt really good! I have never been running faster on this kind of intervals, so this training gave me the feedback I needed: My training the last weeks (including the injury) has made me even stronger physically!
Today I had another intervall running session on treadmill, and this time I ran even faster:) 6*4min, 10,5% incline, 13-15,4km/h (increasing speed during the intervals). My shape feels really good and I feel comfortable with WOC getting closer and closer for each day. In only a week the party in Trondheim will begin and I`ll be ready!
